Prenatal Care & Delivery Q & A
What should I expect during prenatal care?
Your prenatal care follows a regular schedule, with monthly appointments through week 28 of your pregnancy, then checkups every two weeks through week 36, and then weekly visits until you deliver.
At each prenatal visit, your doctor at OB-GYN Associates of Marietta evaluates you and your baby, checking your baby’s growth and heart rate. At specific times throughout your pregnancy, you’ll receive routine tests to check for health problems that can affect you, your pregnancy, and your baby, such as:
- Anemia
- Gestational diabetes
- Bladder and kidney infections
- Hepatitis B
- Chlamydia and other STDs
- Rubella and chickenpox
Getting at least one ultrasound in the second trimester is a much-anticipated part of your prenatal care. In addition to seeing your baby for the first time, you may learn the baby’s gender, and your doctor can thoroughly assess your baby’s growth and development.
Should any concerns arise, the doctors at OB-GYN Associates of Marietta may perform additional ultrasounds or specialized tests to evaluate fetal movement, amniotic fluid levels, and other markers of your baby’s health.
What are my delivery options?
One of the most important parts of your pregnancy and prenatal care is learning about what to expect during a vaginal delivery, when you may need a cesarean delivery, and what happens during a cesarean delivery.
In addition to an experienced group of board-certified obstetricians, the team at OB-GYN Associates of Marietta includes an exceptional group of nationally certified nurse-midwives who offer the best of both worlds: strong medical skills and the heart of nursing.
